Featuring Cats Suggested as the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō by celebrated ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, this charming Patchin bag brings one of Japan's most whimsical masterpieces into everyday life. A devoted cat lover, Kuniyoshi playfully reimagined the famous Tōkaidō travel route using mischievous cats, clever visual puns, and humorous references to each station along the journey. Crafted from 100% cotton and paired with smooth magnetic wooden Patchin handles, it transforms a traditional Japanese furoshiki into a beautifully finished handbag that's as joyful as it is distinctive.
A Patchin is an ingenious Japanese wooden handle with hidden magnets that transforms a furoshiki into a handbag in just a few simple folds. The magnetic handles securely snap together to help keep your belongings in place, while still allowing the furoshiki to be easily untied and removed. Swap in another compatible furoshiki whenever you'd like a new look—or use the cloth on its own for gift wrapping, carrying a bento box lunch, or wearing as a scarf. One set of Patchin handles can create countless beautiful bags.
This bag includes a large 39.4" × 39.4" (100 × 100 cm) cotton furoshiki and a pair of wooden Patchin handles. The finished bag measures approximately 15.7" × 8" × 8" (40 × 20 × 20 cm). The reusable Patchin handles can also be paired with any compatible medium or large furoshiki, making it easy to create a completely new bag whenever you'd like.
As a general rule, a furoshiki works best when it's about three times larger than the item being wrapped, giving the fabric plenty of room for beautiful folds and secure knots.
This collection comes from Musubi, a third-generation Japanese company based in Kyoto that has specialized in authentic furoshiki since 1937. Beautiful, reusable, and thoughtfully made, each furoshiki is designed to be used again and again—becoming part of your family's traditions and creating new memories with every fold.
